Welcome to Fresh Perspectives Counseling. Trusting someone to provide supportive mental health consultation is an important decision. Choosing among unfamiliar names by insurance companies and phone directories may leave you with more questions than confidence.

I believe that each person seeking healing responds uniquely and individually to therapy, therefore, no “one size fits all”. I strive to listen carefully to each client, seeking to understand the various aspects of the crisis at hand, while approaching counseling with an open mind toward what is most helpful for the client.

Let me help you make an informed decision about whether or not I might fit your counseling needs. Informed choices are usually the best choices. That is why I offer a Free 15 minute phone session to answer questions or address concerns you might have about beginning counseling at Fresh Perspectives.

Treatment Philosophy

My primary method of counseling is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT).CBT is a type of psychotherapy based on the idea that distorted thoughts and beliefs lead to negative moods and unhealthy behavior. This type of therapy helps increase awareness of inaccurate thoughts and beliefs by viewing situations more realistically. Research indicates that it offers a very effective method of working through anxiety and obsessive disorders.

In addition, I utilize aspects of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT). ACT is a unique, multi-component treatment approach with similarities to CBT, although ACT utilizes certain aspects of mindfulness (relaxation and attention focusing) and acceptance strategies, together with commitment and behavior change strategies to increase one’s quality of life. DBT focuses on learning and incorporating skills necessary to accept current levels of distress while moving forward in spite of difficulties. DBT encourages regulation of emotions in healthy, practical ways.

Art therapy is something I use regularly in my practice. Art therapy allows the creative process of art making to improve and enhance the mental and emotional well-being of individuals of all ages. The use of art therapy is based on the belief that the creative process involved in artistic self-expression helps individuals resolve conflicts and problems, develop interpersonal skills, manage behavior, reduce stress, increase self-esteem and self-awareness, and achieve insight. Many clients have reported to me that their art therapy process was helpful and enlightening in their journey toward growth and healing.

I am comfortable working with children, adolescents and adults.
